what does it consist of?
This consists of obtaining sperm directly from the testicles. It is a treatment for patients with an absence of sperm in the ejaculate or who have undergone a vasectomy.
Sperm can be extracted from the epididymis (narrow, elongated tube at the back of the testicle) or from the patient’s testicle using different surgical techniques.
Techniques
EPIDIDYMAL
eXTRACTION
eXTRACTION
- PESA: (Percutaneous Sperm Aspiration): performed in the operating theatre under local anaesthesia. Using a needle, the scrotum is perforated to reach the epididymis, from which the liquid containing the sperm is extracted. A specialist will observe the sample under the microscope to determine that a sufficient volume of sperm has been obtained.
- MESA: (Microsurgical Sperm Aspiration): the process is similar to percutaneous aspiration, with the difference that in this method an incision of one or two centimetres is made in the scrotal tissue to facilitate access to the epididymis. This makes it possible to obtain a greater volume of motile spermatozoa.

EXTRACTION
- TESA (Testicular Sperm Aspiration): the testis is punctured with a needle and the spermatozoa are obtained by aspirating the fluid found inside the testicles.
- TESE (Testicular Sperm Extraction): an incision is made in the scrotum to obtain a sample of testicular tissue. From this sample, the specialist will obtain the spermatozoa necessary to carry out the treatment.
